On the 11th of May 2021, a nine-year-old boy tragically died in Blackpool after allegedly being struck by lightning whilst playing football on a football pitch. Lancashire police confirmed that he was taken to hospital immediately afterwards but very sadly he did not survive.
This is an extremely rare and devastating incident and our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends of the young boy.
Some concerned parents have contacted us with regards to using bouncy castles in wet weather conditions and thunderstorms. If you are thinking of hiring an inflatable and there is a slight possibility of a thunderstorm, bear in mind that the probability of getting struck by lightning is incredibly unlikely. Every year in the UK only about two people die as a result of being struck by lightning - although they tend to be people working outdoors in all weathers. Fortunately, most people who get struck by lightning do actually survive.
At Bounce & Party we always make sure that we have given appropriate advise and during a thunderstorm or just before, advise that the bouncy castle is switched off and the children (or other users) are instructed and/or encouraged to go into the house or other sheltered area and wait there until the thunderstorm has passed.
Should you have any concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us.
