How Much Space Do I Need For A Bouncy Castle?

Bouncy castles are available in all sorts of shapes, sizes and types from bouncy castles with slides (combo-castles), low-height bouncy castles and bouncy castles shaped as a dome, usually called Disco Domes. Different types of bouncy castles all have different space requirements.

Make sure that you have enough clear space for the bouncy castle

  • Measure the area where you wish to place the bouncy castle. Most bouncy castles are measured in feet.
  • Is the space that the bouncy castle will be going on to flat, level and clear of any obstacles or obstructions?
  • For indoor halls, ask about the available space for the bouncy castle including the ceiling height. Don't accept the answer “we have bouncy castles in here all the time”.
  • Is there a power supply nearby for the bouncy castles blower?

WHAT IS THE SIZE OF A STANDARD BOUNCY CASTLE?

The most common size for a bouncy castle is 12ft by 12ft or 12ft by 15ft but this is the size of the bouncy castle not the size of area that the bouncy castle requires. You will need extra space for the fan, blower tube, Safety mats, impact area, anchor pegs, etc...

WHAT IS THE HEIGHT OF A BOUNCY CASTLE?

The average height of a bouncy castle is around 9.5ft - 10ft. If you are planning to use the bouncy castle within a hall or venue you will need to take the height of the bouncy castle into consideration. Make sure that there are no low-hanging lights, speakers or light systems. You will need to have at least 1ft of clearance space above the bouncy castle for movement.

For outdoor hires ensure that there are no overhanging trees, telephone lines or power lines.

HALL AND VENUE HIRE

Remember, all bouncy castles are different, a bouncy castle that may fit in one hall may not fit in another. For a list of suitable halls and venues across Glasgow and Lanarkshire take a look at our recommended venues page.

Some companies hire out very low-height bouncy castles. These are ideal for small halls. However, they will only be able to have toddlers on them due to the height restrictions.

CAN THE BOUNCY CASTLE FIT THROUGH YOUR ALLEYWAY OR GATE?

Access to your property or venue is something that often gets overlooked. Bouncy Castles when wrapped can be quite small but heavy and will most likely be wheeled in.

We use a trolley measuring 1 metre wide, but some sections of the bouncy castles may overhang. Please ensure that you measure your tightest area and us of any obstructions or obstacles they may need to know about.

Remember to inform us of any steps as well with castles weighing from 65kgs - 150kgs. A step or two may be OK but any more may cause issues meaning that we are unable to access the setup location.

IS THE BOUNCY CASTLE GOING ON TO A CLEAN AND FLAT AREA?

The area for the bouncy castle should be flat, level and clear of any debris. The area should also be free of any raised paths, raised flower borders, steps or sharp angles near where the bouncy castle will be sited. If you have any paths or manhole covers within your bouncy castle setup area, it’s advisable to advise of this and send an image of your garden or area.

If you are planning to mow the grass / lawn, please do this at least 3 days before your hire.

MY GARDEN IS ON A SLOPE CAN I STILL HIRE A BOUNCY CASTLE?

This depends on the slope, If its is just a small gradient then yes but the front opening of the bouncy castle has to be at the top of the slope. If you are unsure please contact us.

IS YOUR SURFACE SAFE?

On a grass surface the bouncy castle should be anchored down with metal anchor stakes. Ground stakes must be a minimum of 380 mm long and a minimum of 16 mm in diameter and their tops must be rounded.

On artificial grass, driveways or mono block the bouncy castle will still be required to be anchored down with a minimum of 163kgs of weight per anchor point. If the company are using sand bags each anchor point would require around 7 sand bags per anchor point, around 56 sand bags in total. For this reason most legitimate companies do not hire on artificial grass, driveways or mono block using sandbags. There are other ways to anchor the bouncy castle down but this would involve drilling in to the hard surface and may leave damage.

Remember, one sandbag on each anchor point in an outdoor environment is extremely dangerous and against the law!

For indoor hires anchorage isn't required but sandbags may be used in order to stabilise the bouncy castle.
