21 November 20 - Bouncy Castle Annual Tests & Insurance

Whenever you hire a Bouncy Castle or other play inflatable in which users bounce or slide on then it’s absolutely essential that they are tested and insured – similar in some ways to an annual car's MOT test. Bouncy castles are required to be tested at least once per year by law. All Bouncy castles or inflatables from Bouncy & Party are tested and tagged on a yearly basis.

Why Do Bouncy Castles And Play Inflatables Need Testing Once Per Year?

Bouncy Castles and play inflates need testing to show that the inflatable is fit for purpose, and is still safe to be used. If the inflatable has been damaged since it was last tested, then a test will pick up on this and hopefully rectify the problem (in much the same way that a car MOT tester will see if there are any problems with a car that need fixing).

In addition, a valid test certificate will give the hirer reassurance that the bouncy castle is safe and also ensures that the insurance is valid.

What Do They Test?

A tester or an inspector tests the complete structure of the bouncy castle or inflatable which includes a check on its stitching, ensures the fabric is flame retardant, anchor points are not frayed or missing, step size is sufficient and fall off height is no more than it should be. The tester will also check the blower tube length and if there are any entrapment points. This is not an exhaustive list and there are other points which a tester will look at.

PIPA Test

Our Bouncy Castles and inflatables are tested annually and issued with a PIPA badge / tag and also a certificate. The PIPA testing body (Pertexa Inflatable Play Accreditation Scheme) checks and confirms that the inflatable conforms to EN14960-2013 European standard (for all inflatables). You’ll find a PIPA badge / tag on all of our bouncy castles and other play inflatables. Each has its own unique number and if you visit the PIPA website at www.pipa.org.uk that PIPA number can be entered which can verify it’s still up to date and has a valid, current test certificate.

PAT Test

All of our electrical items (that includes blowers and extension cables are annually PAT tested and certified. You’ll find each one has a green sticker on it which shows its passed and also its expiry date. Our PAT test certificate can be provided upon your request. Insurance We hold £5 Million Public Liability Insurance which covers us for all of our equipment. A copy of our insurance certificate can also be provided upon your request. Occasionally, the caretakers or owners of indoor venues such as community halls will not let a bouncy castle be hired or switched on until they have received a copy of the public liability insurance certificate. (In addition when our inflatables are set up on council land, the Local Authority may insist on see the appropriate insurance documentation.

We can send a copy to your venue well ahead of your hire. If you’re hiring at home, still ask to see this! It’s too easy for a hire company to say they have insurance when they don’t. For public Events (e.g. family fun days) It is also recommended you have taken out your own one day public liability insurance, but it’s not essential.
