24 April 18 - non-commercial” bouncy castles, slides or other “toy” inflatables

We have noticed over the last month or so a few new bouncy castle hirers popping up on Facebook, this in itself isn't a problem but with what some of them are offering to hire you is.

These bouncy castles, as illustrated in the image above are “toy” bouncy castles or “non-commercial” bouncy castles, slides or other “toy” inflatables designed or classed for home / domestic use. These bouncy castles or inflatables are not strong or robust enough for commercial hiring. In fact by doing so contravenes PUWER REGS (1998) and also the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974). "Toy" non-commercial inflatables are not built to the BS EN 14960 Standard, and in addition they cannot be insured for public liability insurance purposes and should the worst happen your hirer would not be covered.

These "toy" bouncy castles are available from most supermarkets and toy shops these days and although they may look similar to commercial bouncy castles they are in fact manufactured using lower quality materials and different manufacturing processes. These "toy" bouncy castles do not meet required standards including the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 or the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) for commercial hire and BS EN 14960:2006. These types of 'toy' inflatables are not insurable for public use or at public events.
